Bye June

Speaking of flying off into the sunset...
There goes June - that was quick. Now we take green for granted and leaves are no longer a miracle, it seems. The last couple days were hot HOT and sticky humid, and I know that any minute now, we'll be raking up fall leaves or digging out the snow-blower. Someone once told me that the older he got, the faster time moved. It seems he was right. Bye June, Hello July, lazy days of summer flying right by!

Summertime

Well, we're certainly in a hot spell. It's only in the high 80's, but the humidity is such that it seems a whole lot hotter. A big thunderstorm just blew through and even though my cats are still upset about the noise they produce, the rain was very
welcome and the hope remains that one of the after effects of the storm will be cooler and/or dryer air.
Meanwhile, the knowledge that I'm on my way to beautiful seaside Magnolia keeps me cheerful!

Something Good on TV

The hanging plant by the window with all the curling ribbon and decorations that we put on it the year we didn't get a Christmas tree, cast their long shadows across the face of the dusty and idol television. Finally, something really good on TV!

Thunder Storms

The sky got darker and darker as I drove home and I could almost feel the pressure in the air. I felt a sense of urgency and drove home in a very focused way. I wasn't a mile from the house when the thunder cracked enough to make me jump in my car seat. I did get home before the downpour and was able to unload the house and get inside where my two cats waited for comfort and encouragement. Joy was stuck to my leg for the next hour, but the Princess had to find a hiding place under the bed. We got through it, though and got a nice amount of rain, too. Wild Sunday, today! Love :-)

School's Out

School let out on Wesnesday, an odd day to release the little people, but what the heck! I suppose they already started showing up at the ocean - I'm certain they will make their appearance this weekend. It's wonderful to watch kids at the beach, learning, playing, splashing, exploring. I can't wait to get there my own self and start shooting them again!

Earthquake Safety

I just read the most amazing article that makes perfect sense and represented the opposite view, from someone who knew, of all the wisdom we were taught when we were young.
Of course you would be much safer lying NEXT TO something large and bulky like the couch or bed the car or desk, because even as the item itself is being crushed, there is space on either side of it that is protected by the bulk of it!
I don't expect to be in any more earthquakes since I left California, but if it ever does happen, I know for sure I won't be under things that crush, I'll be lying right next to them!

Rain Day

Today was spectacular, actually. Clear air, blue sky and big puffy clouds moved swiftly through the air. Finally, the clouds gathered strength and force and started dumping rain upon our thirsty trees and ground. Unlike people hiding under tarps and coats, the squirrels and birds are out frolicking in the shower or munching down their dinner - business as usual for the wild ones in the rain.

Finding Words

Listening to women in the dressing room at the gym, I hear the theme again, and wonder how we ever dared to think we could think for another.
"It's a shame," They said; "he could have, should have, missed the opportunity to experience..." I hear their disappointment in him, and without even wondering who "he" is I ponder the idea that he failed them because they believe that he had something that he refused to give, when it is most likely that the thing they desired, or required from him, was something that he simply didn't have to give.
Esther Hicks - Abraham reminds us that the fastest way to not-good feelings is to consider (even for a moment) the course of action that "should" be taken by another. I can only pick my own feel-good thoughts and dedicate my consciousness to them, and I can confirm, absolutely, that it does not feel good inside me when I "should-on" anyone!

Hidden Drive

Looks like they finally figured out not to post the hidden drive sign too close to the tree. I've never seen a tree eat a sign before, so I imagine the first sign posters believed the sign was safe there. I wonder that nobody noticed the tree when it first started gobbling up the sign, specially since trees tend to do things pretty slowly. Well, we can only hope the sign-eating tree is satisfied and won't be consuming anything else for a while.

Between Seasons

According to Healing With Whole Foods we have just entered the Between Season. It's not Spring any more, nor is Summer officially here. Eight days before the Solstice and eight days after we transition from Wood to Fire with a light diet, fresh fruits and vegetables and whole grains. I still have a lot more reading to do in the book, but this is a fine symbol of the transitional plan. Well, I thought it was, but looking at it now, nothing seems to be in focus at all. Guess I'd better dispose of this picture from the website, huh?

Lake Family

I haven't been back in almost 3 weeks, so I suppose this little family is almost all grown up and ready to go its separate ways.
It's hot today, but the air got dried out and the wind is making it absolutely lovely. It feels like this picture looks. I love the way the seasons change and the week or so each flower gets as it passes through it's season. The Mountain Laurel is almost done blooming now and all the spring flowers have come and gone. Now we wait for the seeds we planted to bloom. Before we know it the fireflies will be buzzing about and competing with the fireworks. Happy Summer!

Do Not Disturb

During this heat wave both of the girls took over my bedroom. Joy slept in the window on her blanket and Princess snuggled into my flannel sheets. Twice today I had the nerve to enter that room without asking and was greeted by glares and grunts. The good news is that they will both spend the night outside doing their wild-cat thing (or perhaps sleeping under the porch) and I will be allowed to go into my room, even sleep in my own bed without seeking permission!

Cold Pool

In the winter there was nothing more wonderful than the hot water in the YMCA's small pool, but today when it was 96 degrees, I was delighted to get in the water and stay there until I was officially cold! I didn't even think of turning on the sauna since the sauna-car was waiting for me in the shade of a tree, but I didn't get really hot on the way home. That proves it, once you get fully cool, it lasts a good long time. Thank You God!

Too Hot

I don't know how these guys do it. I was positively dripping sweat yesterday sitting in a chair in the shade monitoring the barbeque.
The thunder storms will be rolling through again tonight. That will freak my kitty-girls out pretty bad, but I'm always glad to see some more rain. It's funny how we had such a long slow leisurly comfortable spring and then suddenly the 90's arrived with the clear intention of climbing into triple digits! I have a light week, senior wise, and that's a good thing - mostly they shouldn't be out in these temperatures. (me either!)

Wet Spring

We had good rain today, starting in the middle of the night to make sleeping so lovely. It was cool too and that is a good thing. Tomorrow, they say, will be in the 90's and we'll all be thinking back to the chill that accompanied todays wet weather. Thank you God, for rain!

Two Fisted Sundaes

Must be butterscotch, huh? All I knew was "pretty" so I shot it. I used to eat ice cream. I remember walking every night down to a local ice cream store in LA. I know we never walked enough to burn off those calories. I suppose I'm still wearing them - no, I guess not, not 25 years later. I had some tofu ice dream chocolate peanutbutter on Tuesday - got the sugar treat out of the way for June already. Now I've made sugarless jello, pancakes & cookies. I'm still counting the dried mango and pineapple as sugarless, since none was added, but they are still pretty darn sweet. I'm so lucky I can still eat those things and lucky again that I have such fond ice cream memories. :-)

Cooled Off

Well, that worked really well. All he had to do was install the air conditioners and the weather cooled off so much that I had to close all the windows, put on knee length wool socks and dig my down vest out of the drawer. When this weekend gets here and it's ninety something with that same level of humidity, we'll be really glad that the air conditioners are in and ready for action!

Bearly Gardening

Oh, the projects we took on when we were younger. It's lovely to look at, these many years since we did all that work, and funny to see the long thin raised bed garden we're setting up for this year - 2 tomatoes, 2 peppers, herbs and lettuce. Well, the funny part is that we were never able to eat all the stuff that our three large gardens provided. That wasn't just because the squirrels would help themselves to the corn as soon as it was ready, but because we simply over did it! Hopefully we'll be able to keep up with this years little garden and since raising the bed like that means we won't have to bend over so much to harvest. The bears are happy too, they won't have to do so much work for produce they aren't the least bit interested in eating!

Lawn mowing season

Knee deep? What's a knee?
Yep, it's lawn mowing season again. I hear the mowers running in the background and dogs barking up and down the street. The only reason I hear all that is because the windows are wide open to let the cooling evening air in. People are walking around again, even late at night, and sitting out on the porch, the steps, the patio. Any minute now the back yard pools will be open and the sounds will include splashing, squeeling & giggling. It's been spring a good long time this year with only one too-hot day, so far. But summer is due to arrive this weekend, at least it's introductory appearance, and air conditioners will drone out summer's neighborhood serenade. Meanwhile, the sounds and smells of lawn mowing will purr through the neighborhoods for the rest of the season.

Balloon Flame

It was scary, watching them put the balloon baskets together with one inch PVC pipe and cord attached to decorative cloth as thin as tissue paper, but then to hear the roar of the flame filling that nylon cloth up with hot air... how could I go up in that thing? Obviously, it could all come apart but it seems, flimsy as it appeared to be, it was all connected and supported very well. Sure, I did watch the whole evening flight before I coughed up the courage to take my own ride the next morning. No disasters happened at any rate and flying amid the peace and noise, between the cold and flame, held up by nylon and wicker, I had the ride of my life!
